How do you all store your dolls' things? I have a number of outfits already for Charlotte, but I haven't figured out the best container or organizer to keep her outfits and accessories in. I have several hangers that came with her outfits, but I'm not sure if hanging them is the best solution. I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered before!

My doll - AGOT #9 Charlotte (what sounds good with Charlotte and an "L" last name?)
Right now I have everything in a 3 drawer rubber maid container on wheels (The big one) But am thinking that maybe I need a better way to store/organize things so am anxious to see everyone's responces too! [img]wink.gif[/img]
I would LOVE to find some more hangers (not the wire ones those are to pricey [img]frown.gif[/img] ) and maybe make a wardrobe of sorts ..... hmmmmm
We have a special room for AG and I have a U-shaped built in bookcase. I use different see-thru containers to house most outfits and accessories. I have the see-thru drawers to hold little accessories, shoes, misc.
The really nice AGOT outfits I hang on a shower rod across the bottom shelf. We took a tall white 4 door cabinet without the shelves and put cafe rods in to hang the historical clothing. I was able to get 4 racks of clothing in it plus two stable shelves I use for shoes.
We are also slowly building a doll mansion to house all the furniture and big accessories.

I have a HUGE trunk for my AG stuff. It' quite a bit bigger than the AG trunks.
I have 2 of the doll boxes *over full* of my AG clothes. One has historical, and one has modern. Those things are beyond full.
Also got a bunch of other outfit/accessory boxes holding the other things. I have a huge box that's more overflowing holding all my doll shoes.
I really thought this system would work for me, but it's proving to be far too little space! I'd like to get something else, something that will hold everything in a not so crammed up way, but I really don't have the space. I'd like to get one of the trunks someday, probably Addy's or Kit's.
That is the million dollar question [img]smile.gif[/img] Right now we have two American Girl closet organizers, six large hat boxes, four five drawer carts, four doll trunks, and we still have tons of American Girl things in boxes looking for a space to go. We are a little different in that we have pretty much everything American Girl has come out with so we have a lot to organize. I don't say that to brag, but to emphasize why we are having such a hard time organizing everything. There is only so much I can put in my kids' rooms. The furniture is large and some of the accessories are delicate so I want to be careful with those. We did group all the items based on what was for each doll. The clothes and accessories each received their own ziplock bag and were put into the trunks and we made a list of the contents so we could find the items quickly. We have seriously been thinking of selling a lot of the things we have because there comes a point when you have too much American Girl things, but my children don't want to get rid of anything. I like seeing all the ideas others have for organizing.

I believe the number for the hangers was 01-408, but I thought it was for the white, historical hangers. It is a code for hangers though for sure because I asked the CS when I called.
Right now we are using a wooden armoire from Hobby Lobby that is about 4 feet tall. They have their unfinished furniture for half price quite often. It came with raised panel doors and a 4 inch drawer at the bottom. It only had one shelf. I have a suspension rod to hold the clothes and three drawer plastic stackers for accessories. They have to be turned sideways as they are a little too deep. I leave the shoes in their original box and put the bottom of the box in the lid so that it makes dividers in the drawers. You can get 4 in a drawer.
I have added 1-1/2 inch cafe curtain clips to the slots on the Historical hangers and use them to hang up skirts.
Several of the dolls can fit in there too since they are very good friends.
We only have two pieces of furniture so far but that will change for Christmas. I am taking my son's old bedroom and making a doll room in it. Someone here decorated theirs with the AG Historical girls reading posters and I absolutely love that. I will probably try something like that after Christmas. I have only been collecting since August. Better add on to the house. It is quite addicitive.

I don't have doll furniture or other accessories, just dolls and outfits; but I have about 2 dozen more outfits than my dolls can wear at once.
To organize these, I took a large cardboard box (I think a computer printer came in it), stood it on end with the flaps facing me,and put a dowel side-to-side through the center top like a closet rod. (Also, I cut off the top and bottom flaps.) I used a shallow cardboard "tray-like" box as a bottom drawer for shoes and made cardboard dividers for it. I covered it all with contact paper, and put in a cardboard shelf low down, over the drawer. Then I put on a latch to hold the side flaps closed, and voila! A home made wardrobe.
Shoes go in the drawer, hats on the shelf, and outfits hang on the rod. Only I'm soon going to need a wider box! [img]eek.gif[/img] [img]smile.gif[/img]
